Mott the Hoople was a British rock band formed in 1969. The band's original lineup consisted of Ian Hunter (vocals, guitar, piano), Mick Ralphs (guitar, vocals), Verden Allen (organ, vocals), Pete "Overend" Watts (bass, vocals), and Dale "Buffin" Griffin (drums). They are best known for their 1972 hit single "All the Young Dudes," which was written and produced by David Bowie, who also helped revitalize the band's career.
Mott the Hoople's music was characterized by a blend of hard rock, glam rock, and rhythm and blues influences. The band released several albums throughout the 1970s before disbanding in 1974. They reunited in 2009 for a series of concerts and continued to perform sporadically until 2019. Mott the Hoople is considered a significant influence on the development of punk rock and alternative rock music.
