Artist Bio:
Mr. Acker Bilk, born as Bernard Stanley Bilk in 1929, was an English clarinetist and jazz musician who gained international fame for his trademark goatee, bowler hat, and waistcoat. He was a key figure in the traditional jazz revival in the United Kingdom during the late 1950s and early 1960s. Bilk's most famous recording is the instrumental tune "Stranger on the Shore," which became a massive hit in 1962, reaching number one on the UK Singles Chart and the US Billboard Hot 100.


Throughout his career, Bilk recorded over a dozen albums and had numerous hit singles, establishing himself as one of the most successful jazz musicians of his time. He was also known for his distinctive clarinet playing style and warm tone, which set him apart from his contemporaries. Mr. Acker Bilk was awarded an MBE (Member of the Order of the British Empire) in 2001 for his services to music. He passed away in 2014 at the age of 85, leaving behind a lasting legacy in the world of jazz music.
