New Edition is an American R&B group formed in Boston, Massachusetts in 1978. The group originally consisted of five members: Ricky Bell, Michael Bivins, Bobby Brown, Ronnie DeVoe, and Ralph Tresvant. They were discovered and managed by music producer Maurice Starr. New Edition is known for their harmonies, catchy melodies, and smooth dance moves, which helped pave the way for boy bands in the 1980s and 1990s.
The group achieved great success with hits like "Candy Girl," "Cool It Now," and "Mr. Telephone Man." Throughout their career, they have released numerous albums and singles, and have gone on to have successful solo careers as well. New Edition has been credited with influencing a generation of R&B and pop artists, and they were honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 2017.
