New Edition is an American R&B group formed in Boston, Massachusetts in 1978. The original lineup consisted of members Bobby Brown, Michael Bivins, Ricky Bell, Ralph Tresvant, and Ronnie DeVoe. They were discovered and managed by producer Maurice Starr, who helped them achieve mainstream success in the 1980s.
New Edition is known for hits such as "Candy Girl," "Cool It Now," and "Mr. Telephone Man." They are considered pioneers of the boy band movement and have had a significant influence on the R&B and pop music scenes. Throughout their career, the group has experienced various lineup changes, with members pursuing solo careers and reuniting for special projects. New Edition was awarded a Lifetime Achievement Award at the 2008 BET Awards and was honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 2017.
