New Edition is an American R&B group formed in 1978 in Boston, Massachusetts. The group's original lineup consisted of Ricky Bell, Michael Bivins, Bobby Brown, Ronnie DeVoe, and Ralph Tresvant. They were discovered by producer Maurice Starr and signed to his label, Streetwise Records. New Edition achieved mainstream success in the 1980s with hits like "Candy Girl," "Cool It Now," and "Mr. Telephone Man."
The group went through several lineup changes over the years, with Bobby Brown leaving to pursue a successful solo career and Johnny Gill joining as a new member. New Edition continued to release music and tour, solidifying their status as one of the most influential R&B groups of their time. They were honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 2017 for their contributions to the music industry.
