New Edition is an American R&B group formed in Boston, Massachusetts, in 1978. The group's original lineup consisted of Bobby Brown, Michael Bivins, Ricky Bell, Ralph Tresvant, and Ronnie DeVoe. They achieved great success in the 1980s with hits like "Candy Girl" and "Cool It Now." Throughout their career, the group went through lineup changes, with Johnny Gill joining in 1987. New Edition's sound helped pave the way for the boy band movement of the 1990s. The group's members have also found success as solo artists, with Bobby Brown and Bell Biv DeVoe (a trio consisting of Bell, Bivins, and DeVoe) reaching the top of the charts.
