New Edition is an American R&B group formed in Boston in 1978. The group originally consisted of five members: Ricky Bell, Michael Bivins, Bobby Brown, Ronnie DeVoe, and Ralph Tresvant. They were pioneers of the boy band movement in the 1980s, known for their smooth harmonies and catchy pop hits. In the late 1980s, Bobby Brown left the group to pursue a successful solo career, and Johnny Gill joined as his replacement. New Edition continued to release albums and singles throughout the 1990s and 2000s, with varying levels of success. In 2017, the group was honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in recognition of their contributions to the music industry.
