New Edition is an American R&B group formed in Boston, Massachusetts in 1978. The original members were Ricky Bell, Michael Bivins, Bobby Brown, Ronnie DeVoe, and Ralph Tresvant. The group achieved mainstream success in the 1980s with hits like "Candy Girl" and "Cool It Now." They are known for their harmonious vocals and polished choreography, setting the standard for boy bands at the time.


In the late 1980s, Bobby Brown left the group to pursue a solo career, and Johnny Gill joined as a new member. Despite lineup changes, New Edition continued to release successful albums and singles, including "If It Isn't Love" and "Can You Stand the Rain." The group has received numerous awards and accolades throughout their career, and they are considered pioneers in the R&B and pop music genres.
