New Edition is an American R&B group formed in Boston, Massachusetts in 1978. The original members included Ricky Bell, Michael Bivins, Bobby Brown, Ronnie DeVoe, and Ralph Tresvant. The group achieved mainstream success in the 1980s with hits such as "Candy Girl," "Cool It Now," and "Mr. Telephone Man." They were pioneers of the boy band movement and known for their smooth harmonies and choreographed dance routines. New Edition's music has been credited with influencing many contemporary R&B and hip-hop artists.


The group experienced lineup changes over the years, with Bobby Brown leaving in 1985 and Johnny Gill joining in 1987. Despite the changes, New Edition continued to release music and tour successfully. In 2017, the group was honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. New Edition's impact on the music industry is significant, and they are considered one of the most iconic R&B groups of their era.
