He began his music career as the frontman for the glam rock band Sweeney Todd, known for their hit song "Roxy Roller" in 1975. Gilder gained even more success as a solo artist with his 1978 album "City Nights," which featured the hit single "Hot Child in the City." The song reached number one on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in the United States in 1978, solidifying Gilder's status as a pop rock star.
Despite his initial success, Gilder struggled to replicate the same level of commercial achievement with subsequent albums.
