Norman Greenbaum is an American singer-songwriter best known for his 1969 hit song "Spirit in the Sky." Born on November 20, 1942 in Malden, Massachusetts, Greenbaum began his music career in the 1960s as a member of various bands before eventually going solo. "Spirit in the Sky" was his biggest success, reaching number three on the Billboard Hot 100 chart and becoming a popular rock anthem.


Greenbaum's music is often characterized by his distinctive blend of rock, folk, and gospel influences. Despite the success of "Spirit in the Sky," he never quite replicated its popularity with his other works.
