O.C. Smith was an American singer born on June 21, 1932, in Mansfield, Louisiana. He began his music career as a jazz vocalist before transitioning to rhythm and blues and later, pop music. Smith is best known for his hit song "Little Green Apples," which won him a Grammy Award for Best Male Pop Vocal Performance in 1969. The song reached the top 10 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart and became a signature tune for Smith.


In addition to "Little Green Apples," O.C. Smith had several other chart-topping hits, including "Son of Hickory Holler's Tramp" and "Daddy's Little Man." He also recorded gospel music later in his career. O.C. Smith passed away on November 23, 2001, leaving behind a legacy of soulful and heartfelt music that continues to be celebrated by fans of various genres.
