O.V. Wright, born as Overton Vertis Wright on October 9, 1939, was an American singer known for his powerful, soulful voice and emotional delivery. He began his music career in the 1950s, singing gospel music with various groups before transitioning to rhythm and blues in the 1960s. Wright signed with the Back Beat label in 1964 and released his first hit single, "That's How Strong My Love Is." He went on to record a series of successful singles and albums, including "A Nickel and a Nail" and "Ace of Spades."


Wright's music often explored themes of love, heartbreak, and perseverance, resonating with audiences for its raw emotion and authenticity. Despite facing personal struggles and health issues, he continued to perform and record music until his untimely death on November 16, 1980, at the age of 41. O.V. Wright's soulful voice and poignant lyrics have left a lasting impact on the music world, earning him a place among the greats of soul and rhythm and blues.
