Parliament was an American funk band formed in the late 1960s by George Clinton and his collaborators. The band is known for their eclectic and avant-garde style, blending elements of funk, soul, and rock music. Parliament achieved commercial success in the 1970s with hit songs such as "Give Up the Funk (Tear the Roof off the Sucker)" and "Flash Light."
The band's performances were characterized by elaborate stage shows and flamboyant costumes, often featuring elaborate props and characters. Parliament's music and aesthetic played a significant role in the development of the funk genre and influenced many other musicians and artists. Despite several lineup changes over the years, Parliament continued to release music and tour until the late 1980s. They were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1997.
