Artist Bio:
Patti LaBelle and the Blue Belles were an American girl group that was formed in Philadelphia in 1959. The original members were Patti LaBelle, Nona Hendryx, Sarah Dash, and Cindy Birdsong. The group started out as a doo-wop ensemble before transitioning to a more soulful sound in the 1960s. They were known for their harmonious vocals and energetic stage performances.
In the mid-1960s, Cindy Birdsong left the group to join The Supremes, and she was replaced by Sundray Tucker. The group then changed their name to Labelle and found commercial success in the early 1970s with hits like "Lady Marmalade." Patti LaBelle eventually went on to have a successful solo career, while Nona Hendryx and Sarah Dash also pursued solo ventures. Despite their eventual individual success, Patti LaBelle and the Blue Belles are recognized as pioneers of soul and R&B music.
