Known for her powerful and emotive vocals, as well as her politically charged lyrics, Smith became a prominent figure in the punk rock and art rock scenes of the 1970s.

The band's debut album, "Horses," released in 1975, is considered a landmark in the history of punk rock music. The Patti Smith Group went on to release several more albums, including "Easter" in 1978, which featured the hit single "Because the Night." The band disbanded in 1979, but Patti Smith continued to have a successful solo career. The Patti Smith Group's influence on the punk rock genre and their unique blend of poetry and music have solidified their place in music history.
