Patty Duke, born Anna Marie Duke on December 14, 1946, was an American actress and singer. She began her career as a child star in the early 1960s, gaining fame for her portrayal of Helen Keller in the Broadway play "The Miracle Worker," a role which she later reprised in the film adaptation, earning her an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress at the age of 16, making her the youngest person at the time to win an Oscar in a competitive category. Duke also found success on the small screen, starring in the popular sitcom "The Patty Duke Show" from 1963 to 1966, where she played identical cousins with contrasting personalities.
Throughout her career, Patty Duke continued to act in films and television, earning multiple Emmy Awards for her performances. In addition to her acting work, she was also a mental health advocate, openly discussing her struggles with bipolar disorder and raising awareness about mental health issues. Patty Duke passed away on March 29, 2016, leaving behind a legacy of groundbreaking performances and advocacy work.
