Paul Stookey is an American singer-songwriter best known as a member of the folk trio Peter, Paul and Mary. Born on December 30, 1937, in Baltimore, Maryland, Stookey began his music career in the early 1960s with Peter Yarrow and Mary Travers. The trio achieved great success with hits like "Puff the Magic Dragon," "Blowin' in the Wind," and "Leaving on a Jet Plane."
Aside from his work with Peter, Paul and Mary, Stookey has also released solo albums and continued to perform as a solo artist. He is known for his socially conscious songwriting and activism, often addressing political and social issues in his music. Stookey remains a prominent figure in the folk music scene and continues to tour and perform to this day.
