Paul Williams was an American composer, singer, and actor born on September 19, 1940, in Omaha, Nebraska. He gained fame in the 1970s as a songwriter, penning popular hits such as "We've Only Just Begun" and "Rainy Days and Mondays" for the Carpenters. Williams also wrote the theme song for the film "A Star is Born," which won an Academy Award for Best Original Song.
In addition to his songwriting success, Paul Williams appeared in a number of films and television shows, including roles in "Phantom of the Paradise" and "Smokey and the Bandit." He also served as the president of the American Society of Composers, Authors, and Publishers (ASCAP) from 2009 to 2017. Paul Williams has been recognized with various awards throughout his career, including induction into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2001.
