Percy Sledge was an American R&B and soul singer-songwriter, best known for his classic song "When a Man Loves a Woman." Born on November 25, 1940, in Leighton, Alabama, Sledge began his music career in the 1960s, achieving international fame with his emotional and powerful vocal delivery. His hit song "When a Man Loves a Woman" reached number one on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in 1966 and has since become a soul music standard.


Sledge continued to release music throughout his career, scoring other hits such as "Warm and Tender Love" and "Take Time to Know Her." He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2005. Percy Sledge passed away on April 14, 2015, leaving behind a musical legacy that continues to influence and inspire artists in the R&B and soul genres.
