Pete Fountain was an American jazz clarinetist born on July 3, 1930, in New Orleans, Louisiana. He became renowned for his traditional New Orleans jazz sound, earning the nickname "The King of Dixieland." Fountain started playing the clarinet at a young age and gained popularity performing with Lawrence Welk's band in the 1950s. He later formed his own group, the Pete Fountain Quartet, and became a regular performer on The Lawrence Welk Show and The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson.
Fountain's career spanned over six decades, during which he released numerous albums and performed at various jazz festivals and events worldwide. He was inducted into the Louisiana Music Hall of Fame in 2007 and received a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award in 2013. Pete Fountain's lively and energetic style of playing the clarinet made him a beloved figure in the jazz world, and his music continues to be celebrated by fans of traditional New Orleans jazz.
