Peter, Paul & Mary was an American folk group formed in New York City in 1961. The trio consisted of Peter Yarrow, Noel Paul Stookey, and Mary Travers. They were known for their close harmonies and socially conscious repertoire, which included songs advocating for civil rights, peace, and social justice.
One of their most famous songs, "Blowin' in the Wind," written by Bob Dylan, became an anthem for the civil rights movement. The group achieved commercial success with hits like "If I Had a Hammer" and "Puff, the Magic Dragon." Peter, Paul & Mary were influential in the folk music revival of the 1960s and continued to perform together until Mary Travers' death in 2009. Their music continues to be celebrated for its powerful messages and timeless appeal.
