Born in India to British parents, he moved to England in the early 1950s. Sarstedt released several albums throughout his career, with his music blending elements of folk, pop, and rock. He was known for his distinctive voice and storytelling lyrics, often drawing inspiration from his own life experiences and travels.
In addition to his musical success, Sarstedt also wrote poetry and fiction. He continued to perform and record music up until his death in 2017.
