She was born Phoebe Ann Laub on July 17, 1950, in New York City, and adopted the stage name Phoebe Snow in the early 1970s. Snow rose to fame with her self-titled debut album released in 1974, which featured her hit single "Poetry Man." Her music encompassed a mix of genres including pop, jazz, and blues, showcasing her versatile vocal abilities.


Despite her initial success, Snow chose to prioritize her personal life, taking a hiatus from her music career to care for her daughter Valerie, who was born with severe brain damage. She made a comeback in the 1980s and continued to release albums and perform live throughout her career. Phoebe Snow passed away on April 26, 2011, leaving behind a legacy of soulful music and a unique voice that resonated with audiences across generations.
