Pookie Hudson, born Thornton James Hudson Jr. on June 11, 1934, was an American R&B and doo-wop singer and songwriter. He was best known as the lead vocalist of the group The Spaniels, which he co-founded in 1953 in Gary, Indiana. The Spaniels' most famous song, "Goodnight, Sweetheart, Goodnight," released in 1954, became a classic in the doo-wop genre.


Hudson's smooth and soulful voice contributed to The Spaniels' success and enduring popularity. The group was inducted into the Vocal Group Hall of Fame in 2002 and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2013. Pookie Hudson's musical legacy continues to influence and inspire artists in the R&B and doo-wop genres. Hudson passed away on January 16, 2007, leaving behind a rich musical heritage that has left a lasting impact on the music industry.
