Preston Epps was an American musician known for his skills as a percussionist, particularly as a bongo player. He was born on July 19, 1930, in Oakland, California, and began his music career in the 1950s. Epps gained popularity with his instrumental hit single "Bongo Rock" in 1959, which reached number 14 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. The song is considered one of the earliest examples of a rock and roll instrumental featuring bongos.


Epps continued to release music throughout the 1960s, including albums such as "Bongo Bongo Bongo" and "Bongo in the Congo." He also collaborated with other artists and bands during his career.
