The Pretenders are a British-American rock band formed in Hereford, England, in 1978. The band's original lineup consisted of lead vocalist and rhythm guitarist Chrissie Hynde, lead guitarist James Honeyman-Scott, bassist Pete Farndon, and drummer Martin Chambers. They achieved commercial success with their self-titled debut album in 1980, which included hits such as "Brass in Pocket" and "Stop Your Sobbing."
The Pretenders have released a total of eleven studio albums, with Chrissie Hynde being the only constant member throughout their various lineup changes. Their music is known for its unique blend of punk, new wave, and pop rock elements. The band has been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and has received critical acclaim for their influential and enduring contributions to the music industry.
