The Pretenders are a British-American rock band formed in Hereford, England, in 1978. The band's original lineup consisted of lead vocalist and rhythm guitarist Chrissie Hynde, lead guitarist James Honeyman-Scott, bassist Pete Farndon, and drummer Martin Chambers. They are known for their distinctive sound that blends elements of punk rock, new wave, and pop music.
The Pretenders achieved commercial success with hits like "Brass in Pocket," "Back on the Chain Gang," and "I'll Stand by You." Despite several lineup changes over the years due to the deaths of Honeyman-Scott and Farndon, Chrissie Hynde remains the band's only consistent member. The Pretenders have released numerous albums and continue to tour and perform to this day, maintaining a loyal fan base worldwide.
