Ralph MacDonald was an American percussionist, songwriter, and producer known for his work in the jazz, R&B, and pop music genres. He was born on March 15, 1944, in Harlem, New York City, and began his music career in the 1960s. MacDonald collaborated with various artists and bands throughout his career, including Bill Withers, who was an American singer-songwriter known for hits such as "Lean on Me" and "Ain't No Sunshine."
MacDonald and Withers collaborated on several songs together, including the hit single "Just the Two of Us." Released in 1980, the song featured MacDonald's percussion work and Withers' soulful vocals, becoming a chart-topping success and a signature track for both artists. MacDonald's contributions to the music industry earned him multiple Grammy Awards, and he was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2006. Ralph MacDonald passed away on December 18, 2011, leaving behind a legacy of influential music collaborations.
