Ramsey Lewis is an American jazz pianist and composer born on May 27, 1935, in Chicago, Illinois. He first rose to fame in the 1960s as the leader of the Ramsey Lewis Trio, which also included bassist Eldee Young and drummer Isaac "Red" Holt. The trio achieved great success with their instrumental jazz recordings, blending elements of jazz, soul, and pop music. One of their biggest hits was the 1965 album "The In Crowd," which featured the title track that became a crossover pop hit.


Throughout his career, Ramsey Lewis has won three Grammy Awards and has released over 80 albums, showcasing his versatility as a musician and his ability to experiment with various musical styles. He is known for his distinctive piano playing style, which often incorporates elements of blues, gospel, and classical music. Lewis continues to perform and record music, captivating audiences with his soulful and innovative approach to jazz.
