Artist Bio:
Ray Bryant was an American jazz pianist and composer born on December 24, 1931, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He was known for his bluesy and soulful style of playing, which was heavily influenced by gospel music. Bryant began his professional career in the 1950s, playing with musicians such as Sonny Rollins, Miles Davis, and Carmen McRae. He also led his own groups and recorded numerous albums as a bandleader.


Bryant's most famous composition is the jazz standard "Cubano Chant," which has been recorded by many other artists. He was also known for his trio work, often performing with bassist George Duvivier and drummer Grady Tate. Bryant continued to perform and record throughout his career, gaining recognition for his skilled and expressive piano playing. He passed away on June 2, 2011, leaving behind a legacy of influential jazz recordings.
