Ray Charles was an American singer, songwriter, and pianist who was born on September 23, 1930, in Albany, Georgia. He is considered one of the pioneers of soul music and is known for blending various musical styles such as rhythm and blues, gospel, and jazz. Charles achieved great success in his career, winning 17 Grammy Awards, including a Lifetime Achievement Award in 1987. He was also inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1986.


In addition to his musical accomplishments, Ray Charles was a prominent figure in the civil rights movement. He refused to perform in segregated venues and used his platform to advocate for racial equality. Charles passed away on June 10, 2004, leaving behind a lasting legacy in the music industry and beyond.
