Artist Bio:
Ray Ellis (1921-2013) was an American artist known for his Impressionistic style and depictions of landscapes, particularly those of the southeastern United States. Born in Philadelphia, Ellis studied at the Philadelphia Museum School of Industrial Art before serving in World War II. After the war, he pursued a career in advertising in New York City, eventually moving to Hilton Head Island, South Carolina, where he focused on painting full-time. Ellis gained recognition for his vibrant and expressive paintings that captured the beauty of the Lowcountry and coastal regions. He often worked en plein air, allowing him to capture the nuances of light and atmosphere in his landscapes.

In addition to his artistic endeavors, Ray Ellis was also a successful author, publishing several books that combined his artwork with stories and essays about his experiences as a painter. His work has been exhibited in galleries and museums across the United States, and he was a member of prestigious art organizations such as the American Watercolor Society and the National Watercolor Society. Ellis' legacy continues through his artwork, which remains highly sought after by collectors and art enthusiasts.
