The band Raydio was formed in 1977 by Parker, and they released their self-titled debut album in 1978. The album included hits like "Jack and Jill" and "You Can't Change That." Raydio's sound was a mix of R&B, soul, and funk, which helped them gain popularity in the late 1970s and early 1980s.
In 1982, Ray Parker Jr. achieved solo success with the release of the song "Ghostbusters," which became a worldwide hit and earned him a Grammy Award for Best Pop Instrumental Performance. Despite his solo success, Parker continued to work with Raydio on and off throughout the 1980s.
