Ray Sawyer was an American singer and musician, best known as the lead vocalist of the rock band Dr. Hook & The Medicine Show. He was born on February 1, 1937, in Chickasaw, Alabama, and began his music career in the 1960s. With his distinctive eye patch and cowboy hat, Sawyer became the iconic face of the band, known for their hits such as "Sylvia's Mother" and "Cover of the Rolling Stone."
Sawyer's unique voice and stage presence helped Dr. Hook & The Medicine Show achieve commercial success and a loyal fan base. After the band disbanded in the early 1980s, Sawyer continued to perform as a solo artist, touring and releasing music. Ray Sawyer passed away on December 31, 2018, at the age of 81, leaving behind a legacy of memorable music and performances.
