R.B. Greaves, born Ronald Bertram Aloysius Greaves III on November 28, 1943, was an American singer who found success in the late 1960s and early 1970s. He is best known for his hit single "Take a Letter Maria," which reached number two on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in 1969. The song also topped the Billboard R&B chart and was a success internationally, earning Greaves a gold record.
Greaves released several albums throughout his career, including "R.B. Greaves" and "Always Something There," but he never quite replicated the success of "Take a Letter Maria." Despite this, he continued to perform and record music into the 1980s. Greaves passed away on September 27, 2012, leaving behind a legacy as a talented singer who achieved commercial success with his memorable hit song.
