R.B. Greaves, born Ronald Bertram Aloysius Greaves III on November 28, 1943, was an American singer who gained fame in the late 1960s and early 1970s. He is best known for his hit single "Take a Letter Maria," which peaked at #2 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in 1969. The song was also a success on the R&B and Adult Contemporary charts.
Greaves was born in Georgetown, Guyana, and later moved to the United States where he pursued a career in music. In addition to "Take a Letter Maria," he released several albums throughout the 1970s, with his music blending elements of soul, pop, and R&B. Despite his initial success, Greaves did not achieve the same level of commercial success as with his hit single. He passed away on September 27, 2012, at the age of 68.
