Red Rider was a Canadian rock band formed in Toronto in 1975. The band's original lineup consisted of lead vocalist and guitarist Tom Cochrane, guitarist Ken Greer, keyboardist Peter Boynton, bassist Jeff Jones, and drummer Rob Baker. The band released their debut album, "Don't Fight It," in 1979, which featured the hit single "White Hot." In 1981, Red Rider achieved commercial success with their album "As Far as Siam," which included the hit songs "Lunatic Fringe" and "Cowboys in Hong Kong (As Far as Siam)."
In 1986, the band changed their name to Tom Cochrane & Red Rider, with Cochrane taking on a more prominent role as the main songwriter and lead vocalist. The band released several successful albums throughout the 1980s, including "Tom Cochrane & Red Rider" and "Victory Day." Red Rider disbanded in 1989, with Tom Cochrane pursuing a successful solo career.
