Sovine's career in music began in the 1930s, but he gained widespread popularity in the 1960s and 1970s with hits such as "Giddyup Go" and "Phantom 309".
Sovine was inducted into the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame in 1996 for his contributions to country music. He also had a successful collaboration with fellow country artist Webb Pierce, with whom he recorded several duets. Sovine passed away on April 4, 1980, leaving behind a legacy of heartfelt and poignant songs that resonated with country music fans.
