R.E.M. was an American rock band formed in Athens, Georgia, in 1980. The band consisted of vocalist Michael Stipe, guitarist Peter Buck, bassist Mike Mills, and drummer Bill Berry. R.E.M. is known for their distinctive sound, which blends elements of alternative rock, jangle pop, and folk rock. They were one of the pioneering bands of the alternative rock genre and achieved mainstream success in the 1980s and 1990s.


R.E.M. released a string of critically acclaimed albums, including "Automatic for the People," "Out of Time," and "Monster." They are best known for hits such as "Losing My Religion," "Everybody Hurts," and "Man on the Moon." R.E.M. disbanded in 2011 after three decades together, leaving behind a legacy as one of the most influential and successful rock bands of their era.
