R.E.M. was an American rock band formed in Athens, Georgia, in 1980. The band's original lineup consisted of lead vocalist Michael Stipe, guitarist Peter Buck, bassist Mike Mills, and drummer Bill Berry. R.E.M. is known for being pioneers of the alternative rock genre and achieving mainstream success in the 1980s and 1990s.
Throughout their career, R.E.M. released critically acclaimed albums such as "Murmur" (1983), "Automatic for the People" (1992), and "Out of Time" (1991), which featured hits like "Losing My Religion" and "Everybody Hurts." The band disbanded in 2011 after releasing 15 studio albums and winning multiple awards, including three Grammy Awards and being inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2007.
