R.E.M. was an American rock band formed in Athens, Georgia in 1980. The band's original lineup consisted of singer Michael Stipe, guitarist Peter Buck, bassist Mike Mills, and drummer Bill Berry. R.E.M. is known for their unique blend of alternative rock and jangle pop, as well as their thought-provoking lyrics and distinctive vocal style of Michael Stipe.
Throughout their career, R.E.M. released numerous critically acclaimed albums, including "Murmur" (1983), "Automatic for the People" (1992), and "Out of Time" (1991). They achieved mainstream success with hits like "Losing My Religion" and "Everybody Hurts." R.E.M. was also known for their activism and involvement in social and environmental causes. In 2011, after over three decades together, the band announced their amicable breakup, leaving behind a significant legacy in the history of alternative rock music.
