Ric Ocasek was an American musician, singer, and songwriter, best known as the lead vocalist, rhythm guitarist, and primary songwriter for the rock band The Cars. He co-founded the band in 1976 and they achieved significant commercial success throughout the late 1970s and 1980s with hits like "Just What I Needed," "My Best Friend's Girl," and "Drive." Ocasek's distinctive voice and unique songwriting style contributed to the band's popularity.


In addition to his work with The Cars, Ric Ocasek also released solo albums and produced albums for other artists, including Weezer, Bad Brains, and Suicide. Ocasek's contributions to music were recognized when The Cars were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2018. Ric Ocasek passed away in September 2019 at the age of 75.
