Richard "Groove" Holmes was an American jazz organist born on May 2, 1931, in Camden, New Jersey, and passed away on June 29, 1991. He was known for his distinctive style of playing the Hammond organ, which helped him earn the nickname "Groove." Holmes started his career as a pianist before switching to the organ in the late 1950s, gaining popularity for his soulful and bluesy approach to jazz music. He recorded numerous albums as a bandleader and collaborated with other renowned musicians such as Gene Ammons, Ben Webster, and Houston Person.


Holmes' music often featured a combination of jazz, blues, and soul influences, making him a significant figure in the soul jazz subgenre. Throughout his career, he released over 60 albums and became known for his energetic and groove-oriented performances.
