Nelson's musical style blended rock and roll with country music, and he became known for his smooth vocals and catchy melodies. He was also a pioneer in music videos, incorporating them into his performances on television shows like "The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet," where he starred alongside his family.

In addition to his successful music career, Nelson also appeared in several films, including "Rio Bravo" alongside John Wayne and Dean Martin. He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1987. Tragically, Nelson passed away in a plane crash on December 31, 1985, at the age of 45.
