Roy Hamilton was an American singer known for his powerful voice and emotional delivery. He was born on April 16, 1929, in Leesburg, Georgia, and grew up in Jersey City, New Jersey. Hamilton began his music career in the 1940s as a gospel singer before transitioning to popular music in the 1950s. He signed with Epic Records in 1954 and released a series of successful singles, including "You'll Never Walk Alone" and "Unchained Melody."
Hamilton's style blended elements of gospel, R&B, and pop, and he was often referred to as "The Golden Boy of Song." He was one of the first African American artists to achieve mainstream success in the early days of rock and roll. Hamilton's career was cut short when he suffered a stroke in 1969, which left him partially paralyzed. He passed away on July 20, 1969, at the age of 40. Despite his untimely death, Roy Hamilton's music continues to be celebrated for its emotional depth and powerful vocal performances.
