Artist Bio:
Rufus Thomas was an American rhythm and blues, funk, and soul singer and comedian. He was born on March 26, 1917, in Cayce, Mississippi, and passed away on December 15, 2001, in Memphis, Tennessee. Thomas began his career in music in the 1940s and became known for his energetic stage presence and dance moves.


He enjoyed success with hits like "Walking the Dog" and "Do the Funky Chicken." Thomas was also a DJ on radio station WDIA in Memphis, where he became one of the first African American radio personalities in the United States. He was inducted into the Blues Hall of Fame in 2001 and the Memphis Music Hall of Fame in 2014, recognizing his contributions to the music industry.
