Artist Bio:
Rufus Thomas was an American rhythm and blues, funk, and soul singer, songwriter, and comedian. He was born on March 26, 1917, in Cayce, Mississippi, and passed away on December 15, 2001, in Memphis, Tennessee. Thomas was known for his energetic stage presence and hits such as "Walking the Dog" and "Do the Funky Chicken."


Thomas began his career in the 1940s as a tap dancer and comedian before transitioning to music in the 1950s. He signed with the legendary record label Stax Records in the 1960s, where he released several successful singles and albums. Thomas was inducted into the Memphis Music Hall of Fame in 2014 for his contributions to the city's rich musical heritage.
