Rufus Thomas was an American rhythm and blues, funk, and soul singer, songwriter, and comedian. Born on March 26, 1917, in Cayce, Mississippi, he was known for his energetic stage presence and charismatic personality. Thomas began his music career in the 1940s and achieved his first major success with the hit song "Bear Cat" in 1953.


Thomas continued to release successful singles throughout the 1960s and 1970s, with hits like "Walking the Dog" and "Do the Funky Chicken." He was also a popular radio DJ in Memphis, Tennessee. Thomas was often referred to as the "World's Oldest Teenager" due to his youthful energy and style. He was inducted into the Memphis Music Hall of Fame in 2014. Rufus Thomas passed away on December 15, 2001, leaving behind a legacy as a pioneer in the rhythm and blues genre.
