Artist Bio:
Run-D.M.C. was an American hip hop group formed in 1981 in Hollis, Queens, New York. The group consisted of Joseph "Run" Simmons, Darryl "D.M.C." McDaniels, and Jason "Jam Master Jay" Mizell. They are considered one of the most influential and iconic hip hop acts of all time, known for their unique style blending rock and rap, as well as their signature fashion of wearing Adidas tracksuits and fedora hats. Run-D.M.C. achieved mainstream success with their third album, "Raising Hell," released in 1986, which featured the hit singles "Walk This Way" and "It's Tricky."
Run-D.M.C. was the first rap group to have a gold album, a platinum record, be nominated for a Grammy award, and appear on MTV. They were also the first rap group to have their music videos played on MTV, breaking down barriers for hip hop in mainstream media. Run-D.M.C.'s impact on hip hop and popular culture is profound, and their influence can still be seen in today's music and fashion. Tragically, Jam Master Jay was murdered in 2002, marking the end of the group's original lineup.
